Mind Horse

Mind is a stubborn horse. It always does what it is supposed to do, leading naturally to the path of least resistance. This mind horse can however be directed on a constructive path by riding the saddle of self-reflection, holding the reins of patience and balancing on the stirrups of experience.

Observing the Tengger horsemen riding at ease on the volcanic ash of the Mount Bromo volcano, I was reminded of Kabir’s profound verse on page 329 of Guru Granth Sahib.

I have grasped the reins and attached the bridle;

Abandoning everything, I now ride through the skies.

I made self-reflection my mount,

And in the stirrups of intuitive poise, I placed my feet.

Come, and let me ride you to heaven.

If you hold back, then I shall strike you with the whip of love.

Says Kabir, those who remain detached from scriptures are the best riders.

    They remind me of Hola Mohalla…tho not as fierce and decorated…but inspiring coz they denote another skill i haven’t tried… 🙂
    They know the battles that can be won…and that distances can be covered…
    some lines by Nikolai that describe them best in their incredible background…
    Has the whirlwind a home in your manes? Is there a sensitive ear, alert as a flame, in your every fiber? Hearing the familiar song from above, all in one accord you strain your bronze chests and, hooves barely touching the ground, turn into straight lines cleaving the air, and all inspired by God it rushes on!…. so powerful…!

    Great snaps. Use of light/composition/landscape – marvellous.
    Suggestion: tell us how you took some of these snaps – the story behind them – and camera/tech details. We’d love to read that….

    As usual the photographs are excellent. The colors and contrast are used to the maximum.

    Noted that the sizes of the horses are one notch smaller than what we normally see. Is my observation correct?
